Yuko Takahashi 髙 橋 祐 子
Yuko Takahashi was born and raised in Yokohama, Japan. She studied Law at the university and got a Law degree. She migrated to Australia in the end of 2005. Since then she has lived in Perth.Yuko studied graphic design at Central TAFE and has worked as a graphic designer.
Now, as a professional sculptor, the beauty of Japan, her childhood memories and the unique nature in Australia have an influence on her artwork. Yuko’s usual approach has been to create relatively small bronze sculptures, paying attention to detail. But she is very committed to furthering her development and recently has tried to create more abstract works, as well as venturing into the use of aluminium, stainless steel, timber and recycled materials. Yuko’s sculptures have been displayed in a range of exhibitions including Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe 2015, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024 and Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2023. And they are held in both public and private collections including Janet Holmes à Court Gallery, City of Melville, City of Wanneroo and Town of Claremont in WA.
She won Second Prize in the 2014 Castaways Alcoa Sculpture Awards in the City of Rockingham, First Prize in the Sculpture Walk 2016 in City of Melville and First Prize in the Town of Claremont Art Award & Exhibition in 2017.
